RSMT was successfully applied for NC DOT in bench-scale tests (Picture to left). Dredged material from the Ferry Terminal at Southport, NC was blended with organic compost and processed swine manure to manufacture RSMT topsoil for use in highway landscaping. Available cellulose (compost, storm debris, yardwaste) was blended with available biosolids (composted biosolids from two different sources and one fresh industrial biosolid). Additional residual waste gypsum, spent carbon and power plant ash were also evaluated in the 32 different RSMT blends tested. Two blends were found to be exceptional for highway use and for agricultural use. The highway blend consisted of organic compost and processed swine manure. The most fertile agricultural blend consisted of organic compost, industrial biosolids, gypsum, carbon and ash.
